Homemade Tomato Ketchup Recipe



  • Ripe Tomatoes 2 ½ kg (cut in half)
  • Green chilies (chopped) 1
  • Onion (chopped) 1
  • Garlic (chopped) half tsp
  • White Sugar 1 cup
  • Brown Sugar ½ cups
  • Brown Vinegar 1 cup
  • Chili Powder 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Mustard powder 1 tsp
  • Spice bag 1
  • Cinnamon 2 inch stick
  • Black pepper 10 – 12
  • Cloves 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds half tsp
  • Dried Button red chilies 2


Step 1

Wash thoroughly all the tomatoes. Combine the chopped tomatoes, onion, green chilies and garlic and keep in a heavy bottomed pan on low flame (1/4 Cup Water) with covered lid. You will observe after some time they are turning soft. Give it a mix and cover again, now keep your gas on medium high and cook for 10 more minutes. they all will turn soft and tender by this time. Put in a mixer, give a nice pulse and pass through a strainer till only fibers left.

Step 2

Put all the spices in a spice bag. Spice bag will keep spice fibers away giving a smooth texture yet the spice flavors.

Step 3

Simmer puree with spice bag for about 20 mins. Until thick, stirring frequently remove the spice bag strain the ketchup in sterilized bottle
